The University of Massachusetts (minus Marcus Camby) defeated Arkansas-Monticello 90-71 at the SIU Arena to advance to the regional final where it will face the winner of the SIU/Cal (Pa.) nightcap.
The Minutemen were paced by a strong effort from a trifecta of backcourt long-range bombers. Ricky Harris led the way with 22 points and Anthony Gurley chipped in with 14.
However, the most impressive Minuteman (which is somewhat of an oxymoron) was Chris Lowe.
Lowe scored 18 points and dished out 11 assists in the game. UMass assistant coaches told me last night at practice that he is the team leader. Tonight against the Boll Weevils (whatever that is) he proved it to be so.
If SIU does its job and defeats CalPa, it will need to find a way to shutdown a high-powered backcourt, especially Mr. Lowe.
We're about 24 minutes from game time as the SIU Arena continues to fill.

We're on deadline tonight at the DE so stay tuned for updates.
