The Official Post-Mortem Playlist

Cubs manager Lou Piniella doesn't approve of this playlist, especially its inclusion of N Sync.

Since my first two playlists were fire, I've decided to come with one more now that the season is over.

Let's get ready for next year, Cubs fans!

  1. A Dying Cubs Fans Last Request, Steve Goodman. Once the Cubs season ended on a check swing (P.S. That was f*cking weak!) the only song that would run through my head is this classic Goodman track that exemplifies Cubdom in only 6 minutes.
  2. Loser, Beck. I think the chorus says it all: "Soy un perdedor, I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?" Yeah, sums it up quite right if you ask me.
  3. Gone, NSync. So this one likely comes as a bit of a shocker, especially with the NSync tag attached, but note that the song was Justin Timberlake's solo coming out party (not to be confused with Lance Bass' coming out party). All jokes aside, 'Gone' truly describes the sadness and helplessness of Cubs fans, especially the opening: "There's a thousand words that I can say, to make you come home..." Most of those words were curse words.
  4. Once, Twice, Three Times A Lady, Lionel Richie. Pretty self explanatory here: once, twice, three times a loser.
  5. Heartbreaker, Mariah Carey feat. Jay-Z. Again, one of those songs where the chorus means exactly what Cubs fans are thinking. "Heartbreaker, you got the best of me/ But I just keep on coming back incessantly/ Oh why, did you have to run your game on me/ I should have known right from the start/ You'd go and break my heart."
That's it for now. It's brief, but it really kinda just puts things in perspective.

Chicago Cubs Playoff Playlist Redux

When the Chicago Cubs began their playoff run, I came up with 10 songs that I would associate this playoff run with.

Well, times change and with the Cubs down 0-2 in the best-of-five series, a new playlist must be adopted.

  1. Don't Stop Believing, Journey. Even though this was the theme song of the 2005 World Series winning Chicago White Sox, the concept of not giving up applies to the Cubs.
  2. Living on a Prayer, Bon Jovi. That's exactly how Cubs fans are feeling right now. People throw around the word "miracle" a lot and that's what it looks like the Cubs are going to need.
  3. We Takin' Over, DJ Khaled & Friends. The Cubs need to go into L.A. with the mindset that they're going to take this series back to Chicago, well, that's because it's what they need to do. If they listen to Lil' Wayne's song-closing verse, that should be enough inspiration for them to do so.
  4. Loser, N.E.R.D feat. The Clipse. Here's a little known song, but I like the concept of "not being the loser" as the chorus would indicate.
  5. Dead Wrong, Notorious B.I.G. feat. Eminem. One of Biggie's best tracks (post-mortem) featuring Eminem. If you think the Cubs are done, well, you're dead wrong.

B.J. Upton is no Rick Ross

It's been a while since I dropped a hip-hop reference on this site, but today I found it necessary.

After a very highly publicized benching, Tampa Bay Rays center fielder B.J. Upton came out swinging Sunday against the Texas Rangers going 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI.

But lolly gagging on the base paths (again!) must have manager Joe Maddon up in arms.

The box score will show Upton was tagged out as he tried to stretch a single into a double, but sometimes you must go beyond the box score. Upton was tagged out by LA Angels first baseman Mark Teixeira before reaching second base. If you rewind the tape further, you'll notice that Upton doesn't hustle out of the box after making contact. If he hustles out of the box, he's standing at second...instead, he's embarrassed again on the base paths.

This is an epidemic in the big leagues and I don't like it. Whether it's Manny in L.A., the Fonz on the North Side or B.J. the Ray, it sickens me to not see multi-millionaires not run out a double. What maddens me even more is when B.J. or Sori don't do it...these are guys with the speed to steal 30+ bases, but they can't hustle to second base on what should be a stand up double.

Gentlemen, do like Rick Ross and get your hustle on!
